Within the framework of the XII Edition of the Week of Art, Literature and Culture, on May 28, the conference on Thinking about the conflict and its relationship with communication strategies was held: "Cinema of conflict and peace on Forests de María” through the Cisco Webex platform.

With the participation of Ángela Hincapié Flórez, Elizabeth Maquilón Mercado and Cecilia Cuesta Morales with the moderation of the coordinator of the Areté Laboratory, Marcela Castellar Rodelo, as well as the assistance of students, directors, administrators and the educational community of the University of Sinú.

In this space, they reflected on and explained how in the midst of the Colombian armed conflict, the media have played a prominent role, not only as narrator of events, but also as protagonists of them, which has led and continues to lead many social researchers, academics and NGOs have carried out an analysis of their role during the coverage of more than fifty years of armed conflict and in the construction of peace.

At the meeting, the central hypothesis was raised that cinema as a communicative manifestation is the medium that has most favored the construction of peace. In which, the speakers critically analyzed the function of the journalistic media in the scene of the conflict from the description of the characteristics of the languages used in the information and of the journalistic practices in the coverage of the facts; also, on what the contributions of cinema mean to the formation of a collective memory regarding the construction of peace in Colombia.

Immediately afterwards, the colloquium on Linguistic Diversity in some areas of the Colombian Caribbean was opened, with the participation of Dr. Juan Carlos Gossaín and Josefa Hernández Cabarcas, who gave a dissertation about the incidences, influences and characteristics of what is the Palenquear language and culture, and Cordovan dialect.

The panelists generated a conversational space in which, through a sociocultural perspective, both manifestations of language are representations of our identity and how in Colombia we are the product of cultural syncretism. At the same time, they glimpsed aspects that are concomitant one expression with another and that allows us to see that multiculturalism, sociocultural context and linguistic factors belonging to particular communities.

They also commented on the importance of holding these meetings in which students and the community in general can recognize the structure of this language and culture, which makes great contributions to the identity of being Colombian in general and the consolidation of a society that recognizes that of the use of the language of vulnerable populations and that to date have not been as visualized as an incidence.

This meeting was organized by the Humanities Area with the support of University Welfare and was attended by more than 100 people.
