CHALLENGES OF EDUCATIONAL INCLUSION
In the Areté Laboratory of the University of Sinú, Elías Bechara Zainúm, Cartagena Section, the discussion "The Challenges of Educational Inclusion" was held. Through this event, we sought to sensitize the students of the Schools of Optometry, Dentistry and Psychology, as well as the community in general, regarding the importance of caring for the population with specific needs.
The discussion was led by Olga Elvira Acosta Amel, director of the Olga González Arraut Educational Institution, Ruth Delis Meléndez, Graduate in Preschool Education, and Graduate in Special Education, Amparo Vuelvas Navarro, who addressed inclusion as a determining factor for the growth of being , stating that physical conditions do not exempt us from rights as social individuals and that today we all have a great challenge of preparation to assume, understand and accept diversity in all its aspects.
Vuelvas Navarro, who works as a support teacher with blind and low vision students at the institution, added: “When looking at the being, weaknesses are potentiated and strengthened, because we all have them, so what do we expect? Adjust laws, make adjustments in many processes and entities, but that we are treated as human beings.”
The Humanities Area intends with this type of topics that the members of our academic community reflect on the current reality of society, specifically of the population with disabilities; they also know all the guidelines referring to the right to inclusion, not only in educational spaces, but in the various social environments where attention and improvement of the conditions of quality of life and well-being of individuals are required.
