The World Health Organization establishes that vision defects are the most important cause of preventable blindness in the world; Optometrists work daily to provide a solution to this great global problem, preserving people's visual and ocular health.
The high problem in visual and ocular conditions, the increasing demand for professionals in Optometry at a regional, national and global level, the needs for health coverage and the optical and technological implementation are some of the main reasons why the Universidad del Sinú resizes, updates and strengthens its Optometry career in a new curriculum, which has a highly differentiating approach in the area of health by providing great advantages in the formation of skills in its areas of disciplinary, basic sciences biological, humanities, exact basics, preventive and community, research and complementary with a practical approach towards entrepreneurship and innovation. Likewise, their clinical practices are carried out from the first semester in the Simulated University Hospital of the University and are consolidated with rotations in the most prestigious and recognized scenarios such as the Ophthalmological Clinic of Cartagena, with access to the latest diagnostic and treatment technologies, as well as such as carrying out a high number of clinical cases together with recognized teachers with extensive clinical and pedagogical experience and certified academic training, which allows the generation of personal, professional and work skills that respond to current and future needs.
The University of Sinú trains competent professionals under the premise that Optometry is a health profession that requires a university degree, based on scientific, technical and humanistic training where its activity includes actions for the prevention and correction of eye diseases. and the visual system through examination, diagnosis, treatment and management that lead to achieving visual efficiency and ocular health, as well as the recognition and diagnosis of systemic manifestations that are related to the eye and that allow preserving and improving the quality life of the individual and the community, so the Unisinuanos Optometrists are prepared for their practice.
The Optometrist graduated from the University of Sinú will be a comprehensive professional in the health area with skills in the scientific, technological, administrative and humanistic areas, which will allow an outstanding performance in society by applying their skills and competencies in the resolution of visual problems related to eye health. He will stand out for his scientific, innovative and investigative contribution with leadership capacity focused on entrepreneurship and social service. His managerial and administrative skills will enable him to make viable and direct public health projects supported by his economic and financial knowledge according to national and international trends. Likewise, the Unisinuano Optometrist will complement his training in the areas of science and technology, knowledge that will help him generate scientific proposals in the different areas of the profession. The integral development of his skills and competencies with an ethical and humanistic sense supported by legal knowledge and legislative will allow you to fulfill your professional commitment with excellence by providing visual and eye health to the population of your influence.
The Unisinuan Optometrist will be able to protect and maintain eye health, or recover it in case of illness, considering the environmental, biological, psychological and social aspects, with competencies in the following specific profiles:
Professional eye care or eye care profile: An Optometrist who has extensive basic and clinical knowledge, which he seeks to apply to the processes of diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation of his patients. In constant search for new knowledge and interested in applying the best scientific evidence in clinical decisions, health promotion and disease prevention. Ability to communicate with the patient and his family.
Administrative Profile: A professional who knows the laws that regulate the exercise of his profession and social security in health in the country, capable of understanding his role as leader of the health team, and of administering an Optometry, Optics, diagnostic eye exam service to a Service Provider Institution.
Teaching Profile: A professional capable of developing educational and training activities, aimed at patients and their families, members of their work team, undergraduate students at lower levels or other programs, and the community in which they work as Optometrists. With excellent command of oral and written presentation.
Investigative Profile: A graduate with attitudes and habits towards research, knowledgeable about its art and technique; with a spirit of curiosity, habit of reading and interest in conversation about scientific news, capable of applying the results of scientific research to their professional practice and of identifying and posing problems, as well as arguing or stating solutions, but above all with a positive attitude towards research, debate and intellectual teamwork. 1 Motivating entrepreneurship and innovation together with the administrative area towards an Optometrist with knowledge of science and technology who proposes new solutions to problems posed, being a generator of employment and a company creator.

Optómetra egresada de la Universidad del Sinú – Promoción Fundadores. Magíster en Ciencias Biomédicas, con sólida formación académica y compromiso con el desarrollo de la salud visual y la formación de profesionales en el área de la optometría.
Miembro actual de la Federación Colombiana de Optómetras (FEDOPTO). Cuenta con experiencia en la atención integral del paciente, con énfasis en el manejo del paciente en cirugía refractiva y evaluación del segmento anterior, contribuyendo a una atención visual integral y de calidad.
Ha cursado diplomados en Docencia Universitaria y Didáctica, así como en Gerencia en Salud, fortaleciendo sus competencias en formación académica y gestión en el sector salud.
Cuenta además con amplio conocimiento en la dirección científica de laboratorios oftálmicos, aportando al desarrollo técnico, científico y académico de la optometría.
Su ejercicio profesional se orienta al fortalecimiento del conocimiento científico, la innovación académica y la promoción de una atención visual basada en la evidencia.
