Successful day of care for the Venezuelan migrant population in Unisinú: 230 consultations were carried out in medical services
Two hundred and thirty people, mostly children, benefited from the fourth health seminar held by the University of Sinú, Elías Bechara Zainúm, Cartagena Section, in alliance with the Development and Peace Corporation of the Canal del Dique y Zona Costera (PDP), the Sepamive Foundation, the Archdiocese of Cartagena, the German Cooperation and Action Medeor through the Rowing Together project towards comprehensive care for Venezuelan migrants.
The activity took place at the Plaza Colón headquarters and 60 children were treated in specialized pediatric services; internal medicine, 40 older adults; gynecology, 40 consultations among girls, young people and pregnant women; nursing, 30 older adults; optometry, 30 children and adults; and in nutrition, 30 consultations were carried out with children.
During this day of attention, the university made its infrastructure and academic skills available to the community in the hands of specialist teachers, residents, interns and students in their final semesters in health services, which affects the inclusive development of the Venezuelan migrant population. who resides in Cartagena and contributes to the construction of territorial peace.
"We feel very grateful because from the university and its allies we have the opportunity to have specialized care from great professionals since today we do not have a comprehensive health service" Ariana Luna Quintero, beneficiary of the day.
In 2020, and as a commitment to the development and social responsibility of the city, the university signed the inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the PDP Canal del Dique and allies in order to establish the bases and criteria for collaboration and reciprocal cooperation that allow the promotion and execution of joint actions of an academic nature with an impact on the community.
The scope of this agreement is to carry out 12 days of health services. To date, 4 of these conferences have been held, where 1,288 health services consultations have been carried out, including Internal Medicine, gynecology, neurology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, optometry, nutrition, nursing and dentistry.
“At UniSinú we are convinced that when we work in alliance we generate great results, that is why these two years of working with the project and hand in hand with great allies have achieved comprehensive attention and approach where we make available not only our physical infrastructure, but mainly the university's care services, which allows us to take responsibility and extend our actions to society”, concludes Galo Armando Lara, academic director of the university.
