The University of Sinú, Cartagena Section, received the award for the best academic poster in the category of Student-Centered Education and Interprofessional Work Teams. The distinction was obtained in the 60th edition of the ASCOFAME World Congress on Medical Education, where 50 countries and more than 80 educational institutions from the five continents participated.

The work entitled "Colombian Literature: A tool in the teaching of Biostatistics in Health Sciences", was recognized by the jury as an innovative and quality academic experience, which strengthens the development of skills under the framework of the Based Learning didactic strategy. in Problems and Project-Based Learning (PBL). This methodology allows students to understand and solve problems in defined situations and contexts, within the framework of training comprehensive and competitive professionals in any context.

This ABP project methodology applied in Biostatistics since 2018, uses the characters of the work One Hundred Years of Solitude by the Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez, as a starting point in the elaboration of epidemiological studies. Based on its protagonists, the author Dr. María Cristina Sarmiento Rubiano describes situations that include clinical and epidemiological data, so that students from the Faculties of Health Sciences and Social and Human Sciences can use elements of biostatistics reviewed during the course. of the subject. Through mental operations such as analytical and systemic thinking, among others; students will be able to keep track of the “Narratives of Macondo”; extract information according to their field of knowledge and prepare a report using the scientific method.

With this recognition, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the work teams of the Exact Basic Sciences, Preventive and Community Medicine Areas of the University of Sinú, Cartagena Section, strengthen their commitment to quality, excellence and relevance, as well as innovation in the pedagogical and didactic practice of a training process.

Likewise, this merit gives worldwide visibility to the University of Sinú, Cartagena section and opens the doors to the participation of the institution in academic meetings that present innovative strategies in education in the area of health..
